Arguably the focal point of the home, today’s kitchen wasn’t always as we know it today. ## Utilitarian 1900's In the 1900s, **the American kitchen served as a utilitarian work room**, where a majority of the household tasks were performed from cooking to sewing. It was a sterile, compact space void of all character and color. ![Utilitarian American kitchen](https://blog.marfacabinets.com/hs-fs/hubfs/94821612773974587.jpg?width=512&name=94821612773974587.jpg) ## When the Style Came In? Fast forward a few years when entertaining grew in popularity, the kitchen morphed into more than a place for cooking, trading solely utility for comfort and, not to mention, style! Slowly but surely, the concept of **the American kitchen was reimagined to include guests and thoughtful design.** ![American style kitchen](https://blog.marfacabinets.com/hs-fs/hubfs/59451612781934357.jpg?width=712&name=59451612781934357.jpg) ## Gathering Place for Family and Friends **The kitchen soon became a gathering place,** infused with personality and animated by the conversations among family and friends. This meant large, open and inviting floor plans complete with lavish pantries, spacious islands and countertops, generous storage, and top-of-the-line appliances. ![Kitchen functionality ](https://blog.marfacabinets.com/hs-fs/hubfs/17301612782774640.jpg?width=712&name=17301612782774640.jpg) ## What's Next?
